ITHACA, N.Y. ? For years, Penn and Princeton have been the standard in Ivy League basketball. More recently, Cornell has been the school everyone has targeted. The three teams will all compete this weekend at Newman Arena when Penn visits on Friday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. and Princeton comes to town on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. Barry Leonard will provide the call on 93.5 WVBR-FM and on the internet as part of the RedCast subscription service.
Cornell nearly came off its weekend road trip with a sweep, but settled for split, falling at Yale (71-70) on Friday before topping Brown (91-79) the following night. Junior Drew Ferry averaged 19.0 points in the two games and led a Big Red 3-point barrage that saw them hit 25 treys in two games, including 16 in the win over the Bears.
Junior Chris Wroblewski, a Bob Cousy Award candidate, continues to lead the Big Red in scoring (14.6 ppg.) and assists (5.4 apg.), while Ferry is pouring in 12.3 ppg. Peck continued his outstanding play and is now averaging 14.7 points over his last 14 games and 11.6 ppg. for the season. Cornell ranks 10th nationally in 3-point field goals per game (9.1) and is second in the Ancient Eight in defending the 3-point shot (.333).
Both Penn and Princeton have Ivy title aspirations heading into the first of two home-and-home meetings on Tuesday. Princeton head coach Sydney Johnson brings in four double figure scorers with his balanced offense. Penn, at 3-1 in conference play, also has four double figure scorers and have bounced back in a big way under head coach Jerome Allen from last year's 6-22 record.

LAST TIME VS. PENN: On a special night celebrating a special group of seniors, the Cornell men's basketball team clinched at least a share of its third consecutive Ivy League title with a 68-48 victory over Penn on Feb. 27, 2010 at Newman Arena. The victory avenged the Big Red's only league loss of the season, a 79-64 defeat in Philadelphia on Feb. 12. Senior forward Ryan Wittman lead Cornell with 18 points, 15 coming in the second half when Cornell opened up a 13-point halftime lead and never allowed the Quakers to get closer than 11 points. He added a five assists, while senior Jeff Foote grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and scored four points with three blocked shots in the paint. The Big Red shot 56 percent from the floor and connected on 10-of-23 shots from beyond the 3-point arc while limiting Penn to 40 percent shooting, including a 5-of-17 effort from deep. With the 10 3-pointers, the Big Red broke the single-season record for treys in a season with 272, besting the 266 by the 2001-02 Penn team. Cornell outrebounded the Quakers 29-23, including 17-10 in the second half. The Big Red forced 21 turnovers and had 13 steals and five more blocked shots in the win. Cornell improved its win total to 25, matching the 2001-02 Quaker team (25-7) for the most wins by an Ivy League team this century and became the ninth Ivy squad to reach 25 wins since the official formation of the league.

Wroblewski will now join the national ballot for the prestigious Academic All-America team. Wroblewski, a candidate for the Bob Cousy Award as the nation's top point guard, was named to the all-district team for the second straight year. The 2008 Ivy League Rookie of the Year is a three-time weekly honoree. Off the court, Wroblewski has posted a 3.61 grade point average in Applied Economics and Management.
TALL IVY: Over the last five seasons, Cornell's 48-14 record is the best among Ivy League teams in conference action. Penn, who claimed the 2006-07 title, is second at 36-24, followed by Yale (35-27), Columbia (29-33) and Harvard (29-33). Other Ivy teams include Princeton (28-32), Brown (26-36) and Dartmouth (16-46).
