News and Notes: Afternoon Edition

Below, some afternoon news and notes...
  • Cornell assistant coach Mike Blaine writes on Twitter today, "In spite of all the academic challenges we've faced this week, our guys have had some excellent practices. Today was no exception!" He later added, "Just finished lunch with some great supporters of Cornell Basketball. The passion for the Big Red is incredible!"
  • Cornell returns to action on Saturday with a 3 pm tip off at Binghamton.
  • The Cleveland Plain Dealer writes, "When St. Ignatius (1-1) tipped off against John Adams (0-3) last Friday night at Sullivan Gym in the opener of the ?Cats 2010-2011 basketball season, there were five new faces in the Wildcat starting lineup. Four were expected because of graduation. An unplanned and as yet undisclosed foot injury to Cornell University-bound senior forward Shonn Miller was the reason for the other."
  • In alumni news, Louis Dale ('10) and his Goettingen club will have a rematch with Allen Iverson and Besitkas on December 21. It is the teams' second meeting in EuroCup preliminary play. With results posted too late for our Sunday News and Notes, Jon Jaques ('10) recorded a career game on Sunday, December 12, posting 12 points and 6 rebounds (both personal pro career highs) in a 91-80 win over Bnei Hasharon which features former NCAA stars such as Dan Grunfeld, Ronald Steele, Lee Nailon, and Maceo Baston.
