Tim Tebow Reportedly Set to Make First NFL Start for Broncos

Tim TebowThe Tim Tebow era is about to begin in Denver, whether it lasts longer than a couple of weeks is yet to be determined.

Tebow, the Broncos' first-round pick this year, will replace the injured Kyle Orton (bruised ribs) at quarterback when the Broncos face the Raiders on Sunday, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting. Tebow has played as a short-yardage quarterback for the Broncos this season, but he's only been asked to pass once (1-for-1, 3 yards). He has not had a run or pass since coach Josh McDaniels was fired earlier this month.

This will be a very interesting opportunity for Tebow. He was considered one of the most controversial picks of the first round last April, because many talent evaluators and scouts do not believe he has the skills to be an NFL quarterback. McDaniels was clearly one coach who believed he could. But now with McDaniels gone, Tebow runs the risk of having a new head coach come in and decide that Tebow is not his long-term answer at quarterback. He can help alleviate many of those concerns by playing well in his first significant action, but there are many in the NFL who are skeptical that Tebow has the needed accuracy to succeed, especially as a rookie.
