Big Red Add to Class of 2011 Recruits

The Cornell Basketball Blog has learned that Cornell has taken an additional commitment for the incoming 2011-2012 recruiting class from Nenad Tomic (North Royalton HS) North Royalton, OH, 6-7, F. Tomic committed to Cornell during December.

The well built 240 lb. forward/center averaged 21.6 points and 11.6 rebounds per game as a junior and was named all-conference and second-team all-district (NE Lakes) last season. Tomic was also honorable mention A.P. All State during 2009-2010.

Ranked 3rd academically in his high school class of 400, Tomic is a skilled post player who shot 45% from beyond the arc as a junior. But with his size, Tomic is also capable of mixing it up and banging in the paint. After he posted 22 points and 12 rebounds in a game against Cloverleaf on December 30, Cloverleaf head coach, Dan Brown said, "[Tomic?s] a bear, I?m glad we don?t play a lot of guys like him.?

John Stovall of ESPN noted of Tomic at the Prep Spotlight Showcase last year, "Solid big man. Can play high post or some low post. Best as a face up 4 man right now." Tomic was also evaluated by Hoop Mountain at the 2009 Hoop Mountain Showcase in Pittsburgh, as a "[h]ard worker with nice size, very aggressive and a good finisher."

Tomic's high school coach, Tim Mattus spoke with The Cornell Basketball Blog about Tomic's commitment. "About a year ago, Ned decided he wanted a top notch education and really focused on the Ivy League type schools. He attended Cornell's summer basketball camp and kept in touch with their staff throughout the fall. He was also recruited by Lafayette, Penn and Dartmouth, and he did visit Lafayette."

"Ned received great experience playing with the CBIZ [AAU] team this summer, they have a lot of Division I guys, probably one of the best club teams in Ohio... For our team, Ned's a post player, he's probably too small to play the '5' in Division I, but he can play the '4,' he's very skilled, he can pick and pop, step out and hit a 3-pointer, he can score inside, a very good finisher, but also very unselfish... he uses both hands very well."

Mattus added, "He's such a hard worker, a temendous student."

Below, junior year highlights of Tomic.
